NASA is trying to grow flowers in the space

NASA astronauts are engaged in the cultivation of flowers in the International Space Station, better known as ISS.

The first seeds of a Zinnia (Aster variant) are already planted and could grow/flourish next year. The experiment is part of a larger research that is about growing vegetables in the space.

This enables astronauts to be able to cultivate their own food which is useful to be more self-supporting. In August this year the astronauts succeeded to eatable lettuce.
